The Deadliest Beer?!?!?!

Rouge again today... because I am a fan of the Discovery Network's the "Deadliest Catch" I found this a great label... and hope that I can find the beer locally.

Rouge is brewing "Captain Sig's Northwestern Ale" with the tasting notes being Deep red in color, this ale starts off with a floral, slightly citrus hop nose, hop flavor soon fades into the malty backbone of this red ale, from the Rouge website.

The Beer is available now, the label changed a little from last years batch... So here it is... enjoy!

We start back up with Maierfest from Rouge. It looks like John Maier is going to get his face on a bottle for the Oregon brewer.

New Belgium - GET IT IN THE CAN!!!

New Belgium seems to be soon rolling out its flagship beer "Fat Tire" in cans. Oskar Blue's has long been producing it beer, including Dale's Pale Ale in the can and has along with other brewers said that beer in the can is much better than beer from a bottle. A can is safer packaging for the life and taste of the beer. Well, here is the can design for the new "Fat Tire" sure to hit stores (west of the mississippi) soon!

New Belgium's Fat Tire Crosses the Mississippi River?

NBN has received a new bottle label of New Belgium's Fat Tire that appears that the beer is going start being distributed on the east side of the Mississippi river. For years now Fat Tire and the rest of NB's beers have only been available out west, but with this recent label it appears that they may start to come east with the start of releasing Fat Tire in Tennessee. This label was approve this week by the TTB and we hope that more states east of the Mississippi will start to be able to get their hands on Fat Tire and all of New Belgium's beers!

Local Boston "Celebs" Help Sam Adams pick the winnder of the Paitriot Homebrew Contest

As reported in the MetroWest Daily News, a few local Boston area media members helped Boston Beer Company CEO, Jim Koch, select the winner of the Patriot Homebrew Contest. The winning beer will be on tap this preseason at Gilette Stadium and available in Six Pack in the greater Boston area (possibly only at Hannaford's Supermarkets that sell beer). The final five beers were judged over the weekend and a winner was selected, but has yet to be announced. The final Five beers were a Blonde Ale, German Brown, Cranberry Porter, Pilsner, and a Double IPA. Check back to NBN for more information as we recieve it.

Clipper City move their Oxford line to totally Organic

Hugh Sisson's Clipper City beers has help the craft beer presence in Batlimore grow over the past few years. His Heavy Seas line has really made a presence in the beer community on the east coast recently and now Sisson is taking his Oxford line of Beer and trying to go totally Organic with them by mid-march. On Hugh's blog last week he wrote a little about what his hopes are for the organic and what it means to have the organic lable.

Beer Advocate to host large Craft Beer Festival in Boston

Beer Advocate, an online and print magazine, will be hosting June 20th and 21st the first annual American Craft Beer Fest (ACBF). This will be one of the first large craft beer festivals on the east coast, having over 75 brewers with over different beers to be served. The Alstrom Brothers have become a fierce presence in the online beer sence over the past few years and started a print magazine in 2007. The event will happen at the World Trade Center in Boston and there is an expected attendence of over 15,000 in the 3 sessions. BJCP release new style guidelines

first update in the style guidelines for the BJCP hitting since 2004 came out recently. You can goto the BJCP's website to download the new guidelines http://www.bjcp.org/ They have added a new color chart better outlining the SRM vaules. The Sam Adams LongShots that weren't

Boston Beer company host annual Homebrew Competition that then comes down to 3 winners that are packaged and distributed in the national Longshot Six Pack. This year there were only 2 beer packaged in the six pack. Mike McDole's Double IPA won, but due to the hop shortage it will not appear in this year's Longshot pack. The two winner were Rodney Kibzey with a Weizenbock as the national homebrew winner and Lili Hess with a Grape Pale Ale as the Boston Beer Company winner. Below are the two lables for their beers that are appearing in Six pack (Click Image to see Larger Size)

Mike McDole said on The Brewing Network back in November that he spoke with Jim Koch and they decided mutually that instead of using hop substitues, that could be obtained by Boston Beer Company, they would not brew and package the beer in this year's Longshot pack. McDole and Koch did elude that McDole's beer may show up in a future Longshot pack and he still recieves all of his other prizes for the competition. Because brewing and packaging happens so fast after the announcement of the winners at the 2007 GABF, Boston Beer Company applies for Lable approval with the Alcohol and Tabbaco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB). Noble Beer News has obtained the lables for the other finalist that did not win the 2007 competition. Below are those that will not be brewed and packaged by Boston Beer Company. Gordon Beirsch brewing 4 new beers to be labled for Costco Warehouse stores.

Miller Brewing Company host a BrewBlog give daily news items in the brewing industry. A few days ago they posted that Costco will release 4 beers on their Kirkland Signature line. They showed a couple of the possible lables for the upcoming beers from Cost to be bottled and brewed by Gordon Beirsch. Noble Beer News has obtained all 4 federally approved lable designs. We contacted Gordon Beirsch and Costco today, but at the time of posting neither company has contacted us in return. Below are the labels for The Hefewiesen, German Lager, Amber Ale, and Pale Ale.

Great website shows US Brewers remembering Michael Jackson

Recently a website surfaced on the web at www.imissmichael.com a website dedicated to the memory of Beer writer Michael Jackson. At this moment it has some great brewer interviews from Vinnie @ Russian River and Sam from Dogfish Head remembering Michael. It also have the "Inside the Brewers Studio" From the GABF with Charlie Papazian, Garret Oliver, Steve Hindy, Dave Alexander, and Mark Dober. Check it out. There are some Great Videos on there and I think that there are more to come

Michael Jackson 1942 - 2007

Michael Jackson, the Beerhunter, shuffled off this mortal coil on Aug 30th 2007. He changed the landscape of beer and the way beer was seen by the general public. He help make beer as serious as wine in the mouths of not only the english and american, but all over the world.

Just before he passed the Shelton brothers, who run a import service for many of the world's small breweries, we able to go and video tape a great and touching interview with Michael. They have shared a small section of it with us (via youtube) and I wanted to share it here with you.

On Sept 30th many people all over the world will be raising a collective pint to Michael to celebrate and toast the man who helped many people (including myself) grow to enjoy, love, and understand great beer.

Dogfish Head - Festina Peche

While in Delaware I went to your average liquor store and picked up a 4 pack of this beer. I have tried and tasted many of Dogfish Head's beers, and considering that I am somewhat of an "off centered" person their beer really appeal to me. I got to visit the brewery in Milton and even though there were over 70 people on the tour it was still a good time.

I wish I could quit my job and go work for this company. Not because I want to brew beer for a profession (that would be nice), but because this company is continuing to make leap and bounds over the brewing industry and my expectation for their beers. We know the craft beer, by definition throws the cares of the macro brewing landscape to the wind, but Dogfish is walking down the hall of all beer, laughing and saying… we know that people out there want to not only taste, but feel something different when drinking beer. And that is what happened when I drank the Festina Peche this weekend from Dogfish Head Brewery.

When drinking beer, we have all come to expect things. We expect a sound when we pop the cap, and when we pour it into a glass. This beer shattered those expectations with the first seconds of the pour. As this straw colored extremely cloudy liquid poured into my glass, I thought… “did someone bottle pineapple juice by accident?”

After being knocked down by the appearance of the beer, I then when in for the obligatory initial whiff of the libation. From dogfish, we have grown most of the time to expect an aroma that will lead us down the path of the beer be it either hops or malts. They are not afraid to wear their beers… on your nose. But this one lacked that usual pungent aroma that Dogfish is known for. This beer may have had a slight crisp aroma that you are familiar with when drinking a wheat style, but nothing to set you palate down a certain path.

I then sat down not knowing what to expect from this beer that was in my glass. It had already broken too many expectations for me to even try to predict what would come across my tongue in a matter of seconds. As I brought it to my mouth, I began to start to imagine those fruit beers, wheat beers, even the Berliner-Wiesses that I have had in the past, but as the Festina Peche crossed my palate I was brought to a new place on the beer landscape a place that could not be matched by any other beer I have ever tasted. I wanted to take another taste to make sure that that there was no pulp in my mouth or maybe my brain shut down and I was imagining tastes. But no, this beer brought the tartness of a Berliner-wiesse to a new level. Almost to the sour point of a sugar-covered candy, but with a great fruit flavor. This beer gave me a feeling that in Milton Delaware Sam Calagione and his crew are really making a difference in the beer world. That they are changing beer today like Jim Koch’s and Fritz Maytag’s did before them. I am glad that the beer landscape is continuing to grow and evolve and not stay stagnant

Like other DFH beers, it doesn’t make a bold statement with aroma, but with how it is their summer seasonal that make all other summer seasonals look, taste, and feel like just you normal average everyday beer. Thanks for the great beer Dogfish Head and I hope to continue to enjoy “off centered ales” for years to come!
